In the African grasslands, hyenas and lions are two “mortal enemies”. They often do not miss the opportunity to steal food, or even kill each other.
A video filmed in the Masai Mara National Reserve (South Africa) recorded the confrontation between a pack of hyenas and a male lion.
In the video, it can be seen that despite the large size of the “ruler”, the hyenas do not show any fear. With the advantage of numbers, they rushed in from all sides, biting the lion’s back and tail when it showed an opening.
The lion did not “stand still and take the fight”. It fought back and forth and even knocked down another hyena. Seeing its comrade injured, the whole pack of hyenas continued to rush in to rescue.
The tug of war between the two sides lasted until the hyenas decided to keep their distance from the adult lion. It seemed that they realized that their opponent was too difficult to defeat.
In the end, the lion was the winner with a worthy reward. This is understandable, because in most fights with lions, hyenas rarely have favorable results.
