The scene of a hippo being brutally attacked by a group of lions was filmed by tourist Dean Grant in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Narrating the incident, Grant said that early that morning, right after the park opened, his group of tourists set out, driving along the river toward the west bank to admire the scenery.

Because this was the first time they set foot in wild Africa, the whole group was extremely excited and nervous because they didn’t know what to expect on the adventure.

Not having to wait too long, after walking a short distance, the group encountered a large hippo leisurely walking in the middle of the road, followed by a group of hunting lions including 8 females and several lions. The little girl followed closely.

Suddenly, a female lion rushed to attack the hippo, using its teeth and claws to continuously tear the prey’s back. Pained by the attack, the crazy hippo vented its anger on a nearby Land Rover, causing the driver to run away in fear.

However, the lions did not show any signs of faltering before the hippo’s move, they continuously launched stormy attacks, tearing apart their prey.

With no other choice, the old hippo tried to use his last breaths to move towards the roadside ditch and then was overcome by the power of the ferocious lions.

“To win, the lions had to spend a lot of effort. I saw a few lions exhausted and unable to participate in eating their prey right away,” Mr. Grant recounted.

Dean Grant’s video was so impressive that even experienced rangers exclaimed that in their entire working lives, they had never witnessed a lion “daring” to attack a hippo. .

Because normally, with a weight of 1,500 kg – 4,500 kg and a height that can reach nearly 5 m, the hippo is a giant animal respected by all species in Africa. Not only does it have physical advantages, hippos can also be extremely aggressive and will attack any animal that dares to come close to their residence because of its high territoriality. Many high-level predators such as lions, crocodiles, African wild dogs… have all been victims of this hot-tempered creature.
